Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (referred to as Mombasa-Nairobi SGR) is the first newly built railway after Kenya's independence. In 2014, China Road and Bridge became the contractor of the project, which was also the first sign project for the establishment of a comprehensive partnership between China and Kenya. It is said that the total length of the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway is 472 kilometers, and the entire line adopts the Chinese Standard design. The maximum speed of passenger transportation is 120 kilometers per hour and the maximum speed of freight transportation is 80 kilometers per hour.
A large number of interlocking pavers with a pressure equal to or equal to 50MPA was required in the project. After inspections and tests on the production of block samples from many companies, the European Standard ZN1000C block making machine from Quangong was finally selected.
The project was completed and accepted for record in May 2018 through joint efforts, and opened to traffic on May 31, 2017. No quality defects and hidden quality hazards were found during the operation of the project. Less than a year after the opening of the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway, it has reached and exceeded the designed transportation capacity and won the Luban Award for China's Engineering Construction. During the construction of the project, more than 40,000 jobs were created in Kenya, a large number of skilled workers were trained, and Kenya's GDP growth was about 1.5% due to the project.
